Over the past week we have been on the look out for butterflies in our school. First we looked around the junior gardens, around the fields, the play ground and then today headed over to the senior school to see if there were any butterflies over there. We were quite amazed at how many we found. There were a lot of white cabbage butterflies and red admirals and a few monarchs as well. We did find it a little tricky to keep track of them as they flit around so much.
When we came back to class we made graphs to show how many butterflies we found and what types they were. Then it was discovery time - what did our butterfly hunt show us:
Finn said he found butterflies in certain places like where there are swan plants.
Matthew saw butterflies in trees.
Bella saw lots of butterflies in gardens.
Paige found butterflies where it was warm and sunny.
We think there are lots of butterflies in our school because there are lots of flowers and plants that the butterflies like. I wonder if we are right.
We would like to plant some more flowers in our garden and see if we can attract more butterflies to our school. We have all thought of ways to look after our garden and hope it will be a beautiful place for butterflies to spend some time in.
