The power of the sun

Did you know the sun shoots invisible rays at our planet?
These rays are called UV rays and they are what give us sunburn, freckles and wrinkles!
Room 6 used a special frisbee and beads that detect UV rays to see how UV rays work. First we looked at the frisbee and beads in the classroom. They looked plain and white. When we took the frisbee and beads outside into the sun they started to change colour. Our beads turned all sorts of different colours very quickly.

Sunscreen on one side

Look at how the colour changes

Because UV rays are invisible sometimes we don't see how they are hurting us until we are already burnt.
Our beads look white in the classroom

WoW look at how the sun changes the colour

Cool look at what the sun has done to mine

Do you know how you can stop the uv rays from hurting your skin?

Use sunscreen. Make sure you have it on to stop those UV rays from getting through to your skin!

Amelie is very sunsmart. She is good at making sure she has sunscreen on and wears a hat outside. I have blue sunscreen so we can see where we have put it.
