Measurement

Over the last few weeks we have been comparing the length of different objects. We have been using non standard and standard forms of measurement. We started by thinking of all the different things we measure and how we measure and what we use to measure. Next we sorted things in order of size. We talked about things that are smaller and shorter than different objects. We have sorted these objects from shortest to longest and measured their lengths in non-standard units.

We used Una's body to draw around and estimated (guessed) how many cubes you would need to measure the length of her body and width. We drew round our hands and feet and measured them. It was interesting to see who had the smallest feet and the biggest hands.

We made gingerbread people and used them to find things shorter and longer. Next we measured our gingerbread people using standard units. We measured in centimetres (cm) and used a ruler to see how long and wide they were.
