Will it float?

This week we went to the STEM room to investigate things that float and things that sink. We used  a range of different objects and placed them into the tubs of water. First we predicted what would happen and next we placed the objects into the water.

Claire trying to mould the plasticine

Ferghus trying to make a boat

Ben made his plasticine into a boat with high sides so it floated.

Amy found that the ball floated but the glass marble sank.
" It is heavy and the ball has air in it."

Isaac found that the cork floated and the wooden handle sank.
                                      "The cork is light."
"Both balls floated they have air in them."

Barnaby made his boat
"have a wide bottom so that there is lots of air and higher sides."
It floated on the top.

These both sank.
" They are heavy and solid."
