Colour mixing and painting

This Term our art focus is painting. We have had a great time mixing and making different colours. We have learnt how to make secondary colours and how to create tints and shades with white and black. We started by painting a colour wheel mixing the three primary colours to make the three secondary colours.
Red and Yellow makes Orange
Blue and Yellow makes  Green
Red and Blue makes   Purple

Next we painted our rainbows mixing and making the primary colours up again.
This week we have been studying the painting Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh. We looked closely at the painting and drew an outline of the picture. We started by painting the stars and moon using thick paint and a dabbing brush stroke. We learnt how to make colours lighter by adding white and darker by adding black.

Mixing black to make the colours darker. Look at the swirly strokes for the clouds in the sky.

Take a look at all the fantastic paintings we have done. Come in to Room 6 and marvel at the talented ladybird artist we have in our class.
